July 3rd
Llangollen International Eisteddfod
July 6th
St Giles Cripplegate
London
Following our hugely successful Easter concert we are now in full preparation for the summer season. The two concerts in July will showcase the music of Wales, with the London concert given in memory of Kenneth Bowen, the Chorale's founding conductor and later Conductor Emeritus.

William Mathias's epic cantata St Teilo will be the centrepiece of the programme. Kenneth Bowen was the tenor soloist in the premiere of St Teilo in June 1963. The Bowen connection continues in July with Kenneth's grandson Ruairi taking the tenor soloist role.

The programme will also feature a new work  “The Spring of Vision”, composed by our Musical Director Dr Edward-Rhys Harry, a friend of Bowen. Edward is also the Music Director for the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod, where the work will be premiered.

Two wedding anthems by Welsh composers follow: Let the People Praise Thee, O God, was written in 1981 by William Mathias for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, and Ubi Caritas, by Paul Mealor for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

Arwel Hughes's Gweddi completes the programme.

The Gift of LIfe

Our Easter offering this year is a wonderful blend of the old and new:

Rutter wrote the The Gift of Life, in 2015, as "celebration of life" and a counterpart to his Requiem's reflection on death. We pair it in our programme not with a requiem but with the choruses from the passion section of Handel's Messiah, ending with the Hallelujah Chorus.

Two wedding anthems by Welsh composers follow:

Let the People Praise Thee, O God, was written in 1981 by William Mathias for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.

Ubi Caritas, by Paul Mealor was for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, in 2011.

Our Christmas offering this year is a wonderful blend of the old and new.

For the old we have Pergolesi's Stabat Mater,  c. 1740 and Haydn's Te Deum for Marie Therese of 1799; both are well know in the choral repertoire. And for the new we have Ola Gjeilo's Winter Songs. New arrangements of old carols as well as some original compositions.
