The Festival of Welsh Music in London is excited to launch the brand new London Welsh Young Instrumentalist Competition.
As part of the festival’s aim to play a part in nurturing emerging solo artistes of the future, we’d like to welcome classical instrumentalists aged 20-30, who have a connection to Wales, to take part in the competition on 16 May 2025.
The competition consists of two parts: Preliminaries and the Final.
Preliminaries
Successful applicants will be invited to perform three pieces of music in the preliminary competition stage. Judges will select up to five performers to take through to the Final.
Preliminaries will take place during the day on Friday 16 May at The Welsh Church of Central London, Eastcastle Street.
Final
The successful finalists will be invited to each perform two pieces of music during the Night of the Choirs concert as part of the Festival of Welsh Music in London, where prize-winners will be selected. You can find out more information about the festival here.
The final and Night of the Choirs concert will take place at 7pm on Friday 16 May at The Welsh Church of Central London, Eastcastle Street.
Prizes
Four prizes will be awarded during the Night of the Choirs concert: up to £1500 for 1st prize, with 2nd, 3rd and an Audience Prize also awarded.
Judges
The competition will be judged by Owain Arwel Hughes CBE, Dr Rhiannon Mathias and Meurig Bowen.
