Croeso! Welcome to our website

and the 2011 Season.

Our headline news for this term is the appointment of our new Musical Director, Edward-Rhys Harry. We are delighted that Edward-Rhys is joining us for the new season and we are looking forward to new direction and opportunities under his baton. Edward-Rhys is no stranger to the London Welsh music scene as he is also the MD of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir.

Edward-Rhys comes from Penclawdd, on the Gower Peninsula and is a freelance choral conductor, composer and arranger who works with choirs of all shapes and sizes across the UK. Community singing and the choral art are his passion and he also teaches singing and composition as a private tutor and at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD).

Edward’s current conducting appointments are with Cor Bro Ogwr (South Wales’ largest mixed choir), Reading Festival Chorus, and the London Welsh Male Voice Choir. He has recently joined the London-based ‘Music in Offices’ team, helping to coach in-house choirs in local businesses such as Christie’s Auction House. You can read more about Edward and his work here or at his own website www.edwardrhysharry.com.

September marks the start of another chapter for the Chorale and we very much look forward to starting work with Edward-Rhys, building on the solid foundations laid by Gareth Hancock and, of course, Kenneth Bowen.

The Chorale’s Summer concert on 9th July at St Giles Cripplegate was led by guest conductor Malcolm Hicks. We very much enjoyed performing with him and the Brandenburg Sinfonia in this lovely venue, a programme comprising Vivaldi’s Gloria RV588 (the “other” Gloria) and Haydn’s Harmonie Mass. It was good to catch up with so many friends in the audience during the interval over a glass of wine. We owe a huge thank you to Deputy Musical Director Nigel Wills who has taken rehearsals tirelessly this year to get us in shape for our concerts. He must be looking forward to “just singing” but thanks, Nigel, for everything you have done!

Thank you very much for visiting our website, we do hope you will find plenty of interest here.

New singers always welcome

Potential new members of the Chorale are always welcome. We are keen to build on the present core of singers who can be relied upon to attend at least 70 per cent of rehearsals and to take part in the majority of concerts performed each year.

Chorale rehearsals take place every Tuesday evening from 7.15 to 9.30 pm at the London Welsh Centre, (Map) 157-163 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1.

If you are interested in joining - or know of someone else who might be interested - please contact: Susan Craig, Honorary Secretary at Secretary@LondonWelshChorale.org.uk.
